Ice Cream kro-mask

I recently purchased the "Ice Cream Kro-Mask". It's a nourishing color mask, in 300ml, by Inebrya. I got it at my local pharmacy here in Canada. The bottle itself says: nourishing color mask revives, intensifies and adds depth to natural or coloured and streaked hair. Restores intense tones to dull and lifeless hair.

Use: after shampooing, apply evenly with a comb to towel dried hair. Leave on for 3-5 minutes, then rinse off well. Always wear plastic gloves. Can cause allergic reaction.

I got mine in "Intense Copper" to intensify my highlights. I find you can use this product as a toner too. Works well after bleaching or to even out your color, this product will definitely do the job.

You can get them in most colors: browns, reds, blonds, for grey hair, etc...

This is what mine looks like:

    1. Aww I am sorry to hear that. I used mine on my copper-red hair and it really made the color even and brightened it up. Copper is more orangey in color, try a red next time! Hope it helps.

  2. I am using it to take my poor overbleached platinum back to brown gently - used the brown first which came out a bit purplish (as expected) and now have the yellow on to tone that. I love this stuff it really conditions and tones without being harsh. I would say to experiment a bit with the tones to see what works for you, as with a lot of cosmetics often a bit of mixing gets exactly what you want :-)

  3. I use it yesterday in intense copper on my medium brown hair and hated it...:-(
Do you know if it's permanent? Semi-permanent? Will it fade? It doesn't say much except color mask...
    Thanks!

    1. This is NOT a hair dye. It just deposits color onto the hair shaft, and will fade after a few washes. It only adds some color to the top part of your hair to brighten up the original color of your hair. So if you are a blond, you choose a shade close to your hair color in the blond tones, if your a brunette same thing. Copper has more red in it. That is y is you must of hated it. Copper is more orangey/reddish. How long did you leave it on for? Again this is NOT a hair dye. It is recommended to leave on the hair for about 3-5 minutes, just to deposit some color onto the hair, that is about it. Basically If you have mousy colored hair, you will use this product to give it back some life, some shine to the hair. Think of it as toning your hair. With a toner you only leave it on for about 5min or you will have a weird hair color. Hope this clears some things up! Just have fun and experiment, that's what hair is for ;)

  5. Well I did a test, leave it for 5 minutes and saw absolutly no change. So I let it about 10 minutes for my entire head...(I know, not quite smart!) I styled my hair and I didn't like the results so I made an another shampoo to strip the color out...now my hair still has some copper in it and of course my hair is super dry! I just hope that because I let it more time it didn't act like an actual dye. But you give me hope that it will eventually fade away:) oh well, as you sa, experiment!
    Take care

  6. So what if I use the silver one on my dark ash blonde hair? I want my hair to be a dark purple-ish gray...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The silver one tones out un-even yellows and oranges from highlighted / coloured hair. If left too long on the hair it can leave a hint of a purple tone, but after washing your hair a few times it will go away. I think what you are looking for is something more along the lines of a permanent hair colour. You can find hair colours in a dark purple colour. I hope this answers your question.

  9. I have bleached hair, I wanted to get rid of yellowish color. Somebody recommends me viola kromask, to work against yellow color and gave me beautifull blond (like purple shampoos).

But when I used it a little bit of the product in front of my head, in fist second I found its a purple hair dye! And I washed it away. But it changed my hair color in a second.

I'd like to know does this disappear after several washing? Or I should bleach my hair again?
Or do you have any other recommendations to fade it away.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. This product is a temporary hair dye. It does wash away after about 28 shampoos or so. Depending how much you wash your hair and all.

Yes you can use this product to counteract the yellow tones, but I would recommend to add it to your conditioner.

In a separate bowl add about 100 ml of conditioner and add a very and I mean very small amount of kromask viola to it. It should turn out to be a very light hint of purple. With this you can condition your hair. Leave it on 2-3 min then rince. Depending how porous your hair is it can stain your hair.

You can try a clarifying shampoo to wash away the violet color. I wouldn't recommend bleaching your hair again.

      Hope this helps! :)

  10. i bought the silver to tone OUT my yellow (blonde) tips...as the top of my hair is a nice white (after bleaching with ice cream products..) i wasnt sure to use the violet or silver....the lady at shoppers told me to use the silver (more blue/purple) (the violet seemed very redddish....) long story short, i did not use gloves, my hands were not stained...i left the mask on my hair for at least a half hour...washed out, and NOTHING changed. should i have used the violet?.....now i want to return this 16.99 useless product that did nothing more than my John frieda Purple shampoo/conditioner...for HALF the price of the icecream.

    1. The ice cream kro-mask is not a toner. If you need to tone your hair because the roots are whiter than the rest of your hair, you will need to use a toner, or a hairdye color. Kro-mask is like the purple shampoo it takes time to work. I would not try the violet as it may not work in your case. You should invest in a toner, and im sure you can buy it locally or online. Sally's I know has where you can order it online. They have the T18, white lady. Don't leave it on too long, because it can make your hair grey. Or what I sometimes use is a hair dye colorant anything in the ash tones, and I leave it on for half the time, just to even out the color.

  11. I have darkish brown hair with copper on the underlayer of my hair. Do you tjink this would work to make my hair slightly reddish or copper depending on if I use orange or red?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Definitely it would intensify the copper. The brownish part of your hair shouldn't be affected, but there is always a slight chance it can stain it slightly adding more depth to the hair. Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes, best advice is to try it out and next time u will know if u like it or not! :)

  12. I just got my hair done with some blonde highlight... my roots are a night blonde then it cuts off to a golden caramel blonde which makes it un even. I wanted my highlights natural looking not sure if I should just use a toner or use the kromask to even everything out.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Did you get your hair done professionally? What do you mean a nice blond? Is it paler or darker than the golden caramel blond? It really depends if you want golden or more ash tones in your hair. But you can try the kromask beige color. It will ask as a toner. They even carry the silver one. Depending where you live and what stores you go to, they may not carry the whole line. So look around. I am unable to help anymore because I do not know the color you are trying to achieve. If it is lighter then the bottom and you want the whole strand to be as light, you may need to bleach the ends some more. I hope this answers your question.

  13. I put the cherry on my faded out red hair and ended up with very bright pink-red hair. That would be fine but within a few washes, it is gone from my brown roots and the colour is very much sticking to the rest. Any advice for fading out the Kromask colour? Because I imagine I won't be able to dye my roots to match a semi-permanent colour...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. When you had red hair was it previously bleached out? What I can suggest you do if you want to keep the red color, is to bleach just the roots, then apply the kromask color all over and it will hold the color in alot longer.

Or if you want to get rid of the color I would suggest using a "CLARIFYING" Shampoo and wash your hair a few times, that should fade it out alot faster. Or just simply dye your hair back to brown.

Best of luck! Hope this answered some of your questions. :)

  14. Anyone have any experience mixing the colours? I tried the cherry, assuming that it would be like other colour-depositing conditioners I've used in the past where you hardly see any effect unless you use consistently for a couple of weeks, and got something of a shock with the result (burgendy and pink hair - but super shiny!) I'm thinking that mixing 1/4 cherry with 1/4 brown and 1/2 regular conditioner might give me what I want.

Thoughts? This time I would strand test first.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. To get a lighter shade of blonde you may need to re-bleach it. Then use a toner to correct its tone. Toner only will work when you have reached the desired level of hair. Lets say level 8, level 9, level 10. depending how light you want to go, You would chose a toner in your level. In the coppery-orangery stage you would be a light brown shade, and I don't think that is what you want. I don't see a picture of your hair so it is hard to tell. To get toners you would need to have a professional hairdressing license or you can use drugstore toners. I would suggest you bleach your hair some more til you get a light yellow shade, then since you want more ash.. get the kro-mask silver toner. Watch your hair closely for the amount of time it needs to work. It will go purple don't be scared. You should also invest in a purple shampoo. I use the ones from pharmacies they are good, but I really noticed a big difference using L'oreal purple shampoo. You can get that at a hair salon. I wish you luck and have fun playing with your hair. P.S. if it turns purple some strands don't be afraid it will wash away in a few shampoos or get a clarifying shampoo and use it two or three times and you will be good to go. :)

My hair is naturally dark (it's dark brown/black.) I have coloured my hair red (I didn't bleach) I'm just looking to spice it up cuz it's started to fade and wS told to buy this product cuz it adds red back into my hair

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes you will need to rinse is out completely or else the dye can stain your sheets and clothes. It is the same with any hair coloring always rinse it out till water runs clear, and preferably if using red, or black colors it is best to finish with a cold rinse. It will seal in the cuticle for you and prevent the color from leaking and or staining. If you purchase the red shade it will definitely add a punch of color to your already fading color. Hope this helps!

    1. You will get a hint of violet in the hair. If you use this products on blond hair or pre-lightened hair, you will get a very vibrant color. You will see the reflect of the color in sunlight. But it never hurts to try it out. also depending on how long you leave it in the hair. It wont hurt to try, worst case scenario it won't show up as you hoped.

    1. It all depends on what color you like best. Do you want a more cool toned color, or a warm color. Silver is your cool tone and beige would be more warm based. The silver would be great for your natural white silver roots to help tone out any yellow bits. But since you have some low-lights caramel and brown you can use a beige tone as well. If in doubt try them both and you will know which color you prefer over the other. Also choose one that goes with your skin tone. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

    1. The best thing you can do is try it out. Take a little strand of hair, underneath preferably and apply the color, time it and see if you like the results. Copper is also in the red/orange family so it will brighten it up and make it red that's for sure. Hope this helps.

    1. I would say do a strand test to see if you like the color you get. And give it a few days to see how it fades and washes out, as it may not be the color you would of wanted the ombre to be. You can always after it grows out, just add more lightener to your desired color if needed. Good Luck! Best to do a strand test rather than be sorry later. But I am sure it will look great!

Also my dark roots are showing alot.. just want to grow it out with no more dying my hair. TIA :)

    3. Ummm Maybe wait a bit till the color fades out. Or I would put a permanent color in the brown u want and then let it grow out. I don't think the kromask would do much as you are pretty dark. Or you can try semi-permanent color which will fade in a few washes. Hope this helps.

  34. I just used the chestnut and it turned my gray GREEN! Where do I go from here.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Well either you would use a clarifying shampoo a few times in a row to remove some of that color. With continuous washes it will wash most of the color out. Or you can re-dye your hair, and I suggest you add some warmth back into your hair. So nothing like ash tones, You will be looking at warm tones, ex: reds, or undertones with red in it to counteract the green. This product works with tone on tone hair, meaning if you are red and want to enhance the color it will brighten it up without having to re-dye your hair. Applying it to grey hair, will results in a green tone. Hope this helps!

  38. Hello, so much good advice here... I have a question too. I had my hair recently colored and highlighted by a professional hairstylist. My hair is extremely hard to work with; it's thin and my natural color is ash/dark brown/blonde. The color came out a little too brassy so she put more highlights in which kind of helped, but I still see too much warm/brassiness in the colored part. Would I use silver or beige? I really do not like ashy tones as they look awful on me and sometimes look even green, but I like light blonde beige color. Please advise. Thank you! Dorota

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well it is hard to tell without a picture or in seeing you in person..Depending on how light your highlights are....or how dark they are still....If they are very light and you use the silver, you will get an ashy color; which you said you don't really want. If the color is a darker blonde still with warmth in it...I would use the silver to counteract some of the warmth in it. But You can also mix equal parts of silver / beige to neutralize the warm tones, without adding to much ash into the hair. Or you can try the beige, since that if the color you are trying to achieve. If that doesn't tone down the warmth to your liking I would try the equal parts of silver and beige. Hope this helps....and Good Luck! :)

    1. I would of suggested the clarifying shampoo because it strips away the color a lot faster than regular shampoo. If you don't want to use it, you can use regular shampoo but it will take longer, just wash your hair more frequently. I am sorry that you were not happy with the results. That's why it is always best to do a stand test, before you apply it to your whole head. Good Luck!

I use Manic Panic Purple to brighten things up from time to time, and it's perfect because it fades back to my natural color (light brown white) which my ultimate goal is to have completely natural hair. Does this product stain at all? Will it fade back to completely natural after how long? Depending on how long you left it on for, and how many times a week you use it, etc....If by any chance you do get any staining best thing I can recommend is washing your hair with a clarifying shampoo; once or twice and it should definitely get the color out without a problem. If you are worried, I say test a strand of hair and see if you like the desired results, and then go from there. :)

I was wondering if I used this between the bleaching and colour process, as a primer/toner, I'd it would help to make the colour more vibrant and even, and last loner. I have very porous hair and it tends to fade in places that are more porous than other. Would this help to even out the colour and make it adhere more effectively?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes definitely it would help keep your color more vibrant and help it last a bit longer. Flash colors seem to fade the fastest and having porous hair doesn't help. I say yes use this. You can leave it on for between 3-5 min in the shower about 2-3 times a week, or even once a week and leave it on longer. Play around with it and you will figure out what works for you. Hope this helps. Enjoy!

    1. I would go faster with the beige color as you did say you were more golden. I am not quite sure if the silver will give you the tone you want in the end. Silver tones out really pale yellow hair, and gives it a more ashy color. I am pretty sure you will still want to stay in the neutral / warm color palette. But it doesn't hurt to do a strand test beforehand to see if it is your desired color. Also, I do suggest that you apply the product; concentrating on your ends, so basically where the blond is, and not applying it all over. It should not affect the brown color, but sometimes depending on how dark or light the brown is, I wouldn't chance it, because it can subtly perhaps change the tone of it. I always recommend doing a test strand before starting any color application to see that you are happy with your results. Hope this helps!

  52. i have dark auburn hair naturally and ive been trying to go that white blonde but im perfectly fine with having a purple or grey tint (would rather grey over purple). i want to maybe bleach a bit in my roots. im more wondering how to get that white blonde because the blonde i have is light but more natural yellowy blonde.

    1. You really need to bleach to a pale yellow color...like the inside of a banana. Then you may tone with a toner, or use the Kro-Mask in silver. I would recommend when putting the silver on, massage it into wet hair and do strand tests every few minutes, to your desired color. Over processing can lead to grey or purple tones. Silver will cut out all the yellow tones in the hair....If you haven't reached the lightness while bleaching, you will need to re-bleach another time, in about two weeks. Doing it the same day causes a lot of damage. I do have another tip. While bleaching if you apply coconut oil to your hair before using bleach, and leave it on a minimum of 20 min, then apply bleach over the coconut oil it will prevent a lot of hair damage. Try it, it works wonders. Then shampoo, maybe twice and then apply the silver. Hope this helps! Good Luck!

  53. Sorry if this gets posted twice but I wasn't sure if it worked the first time....

Hi! I am having some major hair issues. I stupidly put a "beige blonde" dye on my freshly bleached hair which turned my hair straight up orange. I was able to tone some of the orange out but not all of it. Seeing as my hair is now pretty damaged and pourous I was hoping this product would be a damage free alternative. Could someone please recommend a colour that will make my hair more of a neutral blonde. I'm worried the silver will make it too ashy and the beige won't be effective. My hair is about a level 8 orangey caramel colour. Thanks so much in advance.

    1. The thing with silver and the beige color masks, you need to be a light blonde for them to work. It will remove some of the pigments as in yellow and orange tones, but it wont work miracles on level 8 hair. I would recommend the silver one, because it will remove some of the unwanted pigments in the hair and neutralize the color a bit more. It really depends what you were trying to achieve, you would of needed to bleach another time till u get to a light blonde to use a beige blonde. If you wanna try something in the color mask line try the silver one first....see if it helps. Do a strand test first. If not they have a caramel color you can apply over that, leave it on for about 4-6 minutes, but check the color each minute. It should hide the orange tones, but it won't be the beige blonde color if that's the look you u were going for. Hope this advice helps you. Good Luck!

  54. My hair is currently silver (dyed) with some silvery lavender pieces through it. I'm not sure if I should get the Silver Kromask or the Lavender one...

    1. Well if you wanna keep your lavender pieces I would go with the lavender one, cause the silver might take it all away. But then the lavender will add a hint of lavender all over. Really depends on the look you want. If not use both on separate parts of your hair. Hope this helps! Have fun!!!

  55. Hi there, I just made a huge mistake! I have always had hair done professionally and was at my hair dressers a week ago. The hair dressers mentioned using ice cream to keep brassy out of my blonde highlights.... I had brown and blonde foils . I went to shoppers looking for purple shampoo as that's what usually helps with the brass. I picked up the violet (thinking same idea as I have always done with purple shampoo) :( I now have bright purple highlights , ruined my blonde and I am desperate to get this out of my hair!!!! Please let me know if there is a home remedy as my hair dresser is now off for 3weeks for her wedding !!! I'm so upset and just not sure what to do with. Clarify clarify or what? Is there a fix? Thanks

    1. Yes i was just about to say that. Use a clarifying shampoo even do two to three washed in a row, it will take out the color faster. Hope this works for u, but remember violet highlights are cute too, so don't panic too much! :)

    2. Thanks! Good news is majority came out... I ended up mixing equal parts baking soda and clarifying shampoo. Left on for 15mins heated with blow drying a bit and washed out. Looks cute with a hint of pink on some of my previous blonde highlights :) thanks

  56. The violet turned my light blonde hair purple lol guess it doesn't work like the purple shampoo from ice cream should I use a different shade ?

    1. Yes If you leave it long enough it will turn purple. Unless you dilute it with your condition and leave let it process like one minute then rince it out. It will help to cancel out the yellow tones. Try that it should help!

  57. Same thing happened to me! I panicked but found out it washes out if you use a clarifying shampoo several times. The best one for me was fekkai apple cider clarifies to get purple out. Wash hair several times but it will dry it out so extra conditioning is needed after. I now just use the ice cream no-yellow shampoo.

  62. Hi. Would the ice cream kro mask in silver help my grey hair to last longer? I just recently had my hair dye 3 weeks ago.
Also my friend had her hair dye too in purple balayage with a hint of grey and after a few wash it started to fade away would the ice cream kro mask help revive her purple hair?

    1. For grey hair it tones out the yellow tones, so I would say yes it would help your hair. Maybe if you keep it on longer it can also add a bit of coloring to the hair to prolong the color. For purple you should try the violet one, but be careful it can also hide the grey tones in the hair.. So I would suggest to do a strand test to see if it is your desired color.

  63. Hello! So, my hair is naturally a dark-medium ash blonde, it gets lighter as it grows out (becomes brighter w/gold-ish streak from the sun), and last year I did highlights for the first time ever, and being the newbie that I am, I didn't realize the lady bleached some of my hair to do the highlights (never played with my hair color before that), so I went to a new lady who has been toning my hair to fix the highlighted bleached areas that basically turned really light blonde/gold, now my hair is looking a lot more like it used to be thankfully, my question is, if I want to do the toning at home to keep my hair looking naturally medium-dark ash blonde, do I go for the beige kromask? Golden blonde is too yellow, my hair isn't "that" bright, it's ash blonde. What would you recommend? I think she used a 7 on my hair (telling me it will get lighter and go back to my natural hair color with a few washes)

    1. Pharmaprix usually always has them! I've only tried the red and purple, which I use as hair dye. The red one has A LOT of pigment in it and gives a very bright pinkish red, whereas the purple darkens the hair more and really isn't as bright. Again, I leave it in for about 30-40 min. and my hair is naturally a medium brown. Hope that helps anyone :)

  66. Hello, I’m glad I found this blog! I just bought the Violet, new to all of this, tried it tonight and liked the result, left on for 8 minutes. How often can I use it? Thanks very much xo

    1. U can use it once a week or 2 times a week. If using it twice a week, I would leave it on for less time. Really depends on your hair. Best to try it out a few times, and see what works for you! :)
